WW1 Commemoration Weekend


Come to The Tall Ship at Riverside on the centenary weekend of WW1 to experience, explore and commemorate life onboard a ship and at home during the time of war.

All activities will be FREE and include...

  • Live WW1 style music and songs.

  • Shadow puppetry storytelling sessions with Dan Serridge Storyteller

  • A talk on the Lusitania disaster (Saturday Only) with Alan Blackwood, a leading expert on the Lusitania and Ex 3rd Officer on the RMS Queen Elizabeth. *Spaces are limited please pre-book for this session.

  • A WW1 costumed nurse who will show you how to roll bandages and describe her experiences in her make-shift ship hospital.

  • Learn about rationing and recipes from Margaret, the WW1 housewife at her dinner table.

  • Play shuffleboard on the deck with Albert Bestic.

  • Make a poppy and place it on our commemorative poppy net.

  • Pop-up exhibition.

  • Guided tours.

  • Meet a costumed WW1 Army Officer.

  • Look at original WW1 objects from The Tall Ship's collection which are not usually on public display, including a Lusitania medal.

  • Make a medal craft with Lizzie Robinson.

  • WW1 Morse Code demonstrations from retired Radio Officers.
