Since you can’t experience Glasgow, we’re bringing Glasgow to you! We have throughout the lockdown period created activities and resources to bring a bit of the city into your living room.
The Glasgow Quiz
As lockdown continues, you may wonder what activities are left to keep the kids entertained. For this, we’ve made a quiz, with 12 questions about Glasgow and its history, that’s easy to print and makes learning fun. You can find the quiz, and the answers, as a print-out sheet here. Also follow our Instagram, where we occasionally run mini-quizzes on our stories!
Historical figures of the city
Colouring in can be calming, fun, and creative: And in this example, it can be a way of learning. We’ve illustrated some of the famous people that have come out of the city: For you to print out, or to colour in through your favourite photo editor. The sheets can be found here.
Virtual Tours and Experiences
The lockdown has made everyone creative, and that includes our attractions! Many of them have made their exhibitions virtual or created other ways you can engage online. A few examples can be found here:
Glasgow Science Centre: #GSCAtHome
The perfect at-home activity for inquisitive children and their parents is here, every day at 10 am. This is when GSC releases their videos, showcasing a new DIY science experiment each day. Start your day off with a bit of fun learning and create your science lab at the kitchen table, by following their social media or find the videos on YouTube.
The Hunterian: Mackintosh House Virtual Tour
The Hunterian Art Gallery poses an impressive collection in the middle of the University of Glasgow. One of these is the Mackintosh House: A reconstruction of the house that architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh lived in from 1906-1914. And now you can visit this home from your living room: Find the virtual exhibition here.
Glengoyne Distillery: Virtual Whisky Tasting
The distillery is famous for its great whisky tastings, and with the help of modern technology, these can still continue! Their latest whisky tasting was in form of a Facebook Live, which can be found on YouTube. Whilst the video sessions are free, those who want the full experience can purchase the tasting kits on their website. Their next tasting session is set to be in June: Follow their Facebook to stay updated.
Glaswegian Instagram Filters
The last one is for the Instagram-obsessed, or if you’re looking for a bit of silly, Glasgow-inspired fun on the app. We are proud to present our first Intagram filters: One is a picker, that shows you what Glasgow attraction you should visit first after lockdown, and the second lets you put a cone on it – true Glasgow-style. Find the filters on our Instagram here.
