Our latest set of blog posts are about the amazing people who work in our attractions. First up this week is Matt Campbell….so let’s find out a bit more about Matt.
1. Name, Organisation, Job title
Matthew Campbell, Celtic Football Club, Tour Guide
2. When did you join Celtic?
February 2018
3. What does your day at work involve?
My day at work starts with setting up the tour route for the day. This includes ensuring that the many trophies we have on display are polished and well displayed within their cabinets, preparing any special exhibits that we may have that day, setting up the home dressing room with the players’ jerseys and generally ensuring that the tour route is set to a high standard. The tour itself involves telling the story of our wonderful club, taking our guests to parts of the stadium that they wouldn’t normally get to see like the boardroom, the tunnel etc. It also involves answering lots of questions about Celtic, and that can be anything from ‘Who did we play in our first ever match?’ to ‘What music does Scott Brown listen to?’ so you have to be prepared for anything!
4. Any unusual stories?
I don’t have any unusual stories as such but Celtic Park is such an interesting and exciting place to work because you never know who you are going to meet from one day to the next. Many of our ex-players visit the club regularly and I have had the privilege of being able to chat to them, which, as a Celtic supporter, is an incredible thrill. We also have a whole host of celebrity supporters as well who pop in from time to time, so being able to say that you bumped in to Rod Stewart or Billy Connolly is pretty amazing.
5. What’s the best part of your job?
I have been a Celtic supporter all my life and so having the opportunity to tell the Celtic story every day is a special feeling. I understand how much Celtic means to so many people around the world, and we really are a club like no other, so to be in the position that I am in is a privilege. I’m very lucky.
6. Is there anything you don’t like about your job?
Not at all. I get to walk up the tunnel at Celtic Park every day! What is there not to like about that!
7. If you weren’t working at Celtic Park, what would your dream job be?
Without a doubt, my dream job would have been to play for Celtic! As a wee boy that is pretty much all I wanted to do! But being a Celtic Tour Guide is the next best thing (besides, us tour guides don’t have to do as much running as the players!)
8. What’s your favourite thing about your attraction?
I love seeing people coming from all around the world to hear the Celtic story and to experience Celtic Park. We are a football club open to all, and we always have been, so it’s fantastic to see people from all walks of life fall in love with this wonderful club.
9. What’s your favourite thing to do in Glasgow in your spare time?
I like going out to different restaurants. Glasgow has some fantastic places to eat and drink, so it’s pretty easy to find somewhere nice to go.
