Berthed on The River Clyde in the heart of Glasgow SV Glenlee is a major visitor attraction in the City and welcomes some 200,000 visitors per year.
SV Glenlee was built in 1896 on the River Clyde, which was then the greatest shipbuilding river in the world. She worked as a cargo ship for over 20 years, circumnavigating the globe 4 times. SV Glenlee is now the only remaining Clyde-built sailing vessel afloat in the UK and is an icon of Glasgow’s ship building heritage.
The Tall Ship officially became an accredited museum in 2008 and is recognised as part of the Core Collection of historic vessels in the UK. The Tall Ship operates a programme of year-round maritime themed events and activities, with specially devised talks and tours, school visits and costumed volunteer days. Explore every nook and cranny of the Glenlee, including the refurbished Captain’s cabin, Ship’s hospital and engine room. Visit the mini cinema and under 5’s play area in the cargo hold, take part in our mouse hunt and put your questions to our working ship’s crew. There is also a souvenir gift shop and coffee shop on board.
The Glenlee is also available to hire for private functions.
The Tall Ship is a Registered Scottish Charity no SC004608.
